Check out this new extension class being offered March 2010 at UCSD, in La Jolla, CA that will focus primarily on the emphasis of sports in our culture and its impact on politics, community action, and cultural identification in our society. The class will be taught by Ironman World Champion, Scott Tinley. He is not only an expert athlete, but has studied in depth the sociological implication of sports on community. Sports in Society will help participants to:
- Understand clearly the emphasis of sports in our culture and how to communicate that importance to children and adults.
- Describe how sports impact politics, community action, and provide a cultural identification for our society.
- Connect the action and theory of sports: understand how sports and recreation developed into one of the major segments of our leisure time.
- Develop an ethical framework as an individual plans a career in sports.
