Formally, SBR Triathlon Club, New York City Triathlon Club (NYC Tri Club) is announced as the new, independent, premier club in New York City for start of the 2010 season. The organization is run by an elite Board of Directors under President Christophe Vandaele’s leadership, and is anticipated to be the leading triathlon club in the region.

The goal for the NYC Tri Club is to be a positive, encouraging and welcoming organization for athletes of all abilities who seek a way to positively impact their community while also training to accomplish their goals within the sport.
The NYC Tri Club will be coached by local coaches in each specialty of the triathlon sport (swim, bike, run), and will offer training sessions for the beginner athlete to the elite and advanced level. Unlike other clubs in the market, this club will offer something for everyone, an invitation for all levels of athletes, offering a non-intimidating atmosphere and a platform for growth and advancement in the sport.

President Christophe Vandaele states: “As a New Yorker and a triathlete, it has been my dream to create the best independent triathlon club that New York has ever seen. To facilitate that goal, SBR Triathlon Club started in January 2007. Today, I am proud to announce that the club is strong enough to stand on its own. Effective January 1, 2010, the SBR Triathlon Club will become the New York City Triathlon Club.”

Becoming an independent club that encompasses New York City's iconic training grounds and distinctive energy benefits club members in many ways. The club is its own entity and is run as an organization with an elected, volunteer Board of Directors. The club will utilize funds to hire coaches, subsidize racing and gear and give back to its members and the community. The club has the potential to become the city's largest triathlon organization and have broad-reaching influence in the sport of triathlon.

“We look at other clubs in the country like the L.A. Triathlon Club as role models. Within just a few short years, we expect our membership to double, and our reputation to stand as the leading triathlon organization in the New York City area,” states Christophe Vandaele.

The NYC Tri Club is comprised of close to 200 active members and ten board members. The Board of Directors is comprised of local athletes: Christopher Vandaele, NYC Tri Club President; Lidia Rekas, Managing Director; Chris Mosier, Secretary; Carl Hardie, Treasurer; Dave Mendelsohn, Director of Events; MaryBeth Moore, Director of Marketing; Margaret Bravo, Director of Membership; Anna Fyodorova, Director of Racing; Richard Williams, Director of Sponsorship; David Hollely, Director of Training.

The NYC Tri Club is the most reasonably priced club in the area. Full one-year memberships cost $300 per member.
