Project Active Charity Gala a Great Success

Nonprofit organization Project Active, which distributes sports equipment to children in war-torn nations across the globe, celebrated its first annual Holiday Gala on Thursday, December 3rd at La Valencia Hotel in La Jolla. The event featured a silent auction and was attended by 250 guests.

La Jolla, CA – December 7, 2009 – On Thursday night, December 3rd, La Jolla-based nonprofit organization Project Active celebrated its first annual Gala event at La Valencia hotel. Sponsored by nValeo, Mission Skincare, Suplicy Bikes and Coffees of Hawaii, the event featured live music by Jasmine & Matt Commerce with special performances by opera singers Victoria Robertson and Daniel Hendrick, hors d’oeuvres, wine tasting from One Hope Winery and a silent auction.

Project Active was created by Mitch Thrower, the Co-Founder of The Active Network, Inc. (www.active.com) one of San Diego's most successful companies, now employing more than 2600 people. His non-profit organization, Project Active, has initiated a global response to the forty-one areas of the world that are currently at war.

Based in La Jolla, CA, Project Active is dedicated to planting the peace-inspiring seed of athletics in the heart of the human spirit, in the areas of the world where it is needed most.

Project Active's distribution and equipment Partner Nick MacFalls, emphasizes the importance of donations to the charity. “The biggest obstacle for most humanitarian aid organizations is funding the shipments. We have the shoes, soccer balls, and equipment donated through partner organizations. The event was a spectacular success that raised capital necessary for the distribution of over $150,000 in aid supplies that would otherwise have languished in a warehouse."

Thursday’s Holiday Gala was intended to raise awareness and spread the word about the charity and its cause, and raise money for new shipments. Thrower stated that the event “Was a great way to let the world know about our efforts to deliver sports equipment to disadvantaged kids in war-torn nations across the globe. Through our programs, youths gain a means to connect to their lives and each other. They are empowered to build the positive, peaceful societies of the future."

The Gala featured a silent auction with items such as a trip for two to the Cordon Bleu in Paris, tickets to the Grammy Awards and the after party, celebrity-autographed posters and records, and several guitars signed by Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen, the Rolling Stones, and U2.
